In the aftermath of Cyclone Jasper in December 2023, communities in Far North Queensland were severely impacted by flooding. Remote Animal Assistance Ltd (RAA) played a crucial role in providing support to stranded animals in affected areas, demonstrating our commitment to reducing animal suffering in remote communities.
RAA assisted the communities of Ayton, Wujal Wujal, Rossville, Cow Bay, and Cape Tribulation, which became stranded due to flooding. For example, after the evacuation of Wujal Wujal, 70 dogs and 4 cats remained in the community. RAA collaborated with the Council and caregivers to provide food until the local Council had capacity to take over.
RAA fundraised to deliver essential food and first aid supplies via helicopters and boats. RAA was proud to coordinate financial and physical donations from over 20 businesses and organisations to support our flood relief activities.
Our team worked with various stakeholders to assess needs and deliver supplies for hundreds of animals, including dogs, cats, birds, wildlife, horses, and cattle. We further assisted in rehoming animals from impacted communities post-flooding, ensuring they found safe and loving homes.
